Interview: Scream Club @ OvaryAction radio show,
radiOrake l(99,3 fm in Oslo - www.radiorakel.no), july 21st 2005.
OvaryAction: Welcome back in town. We hear you're on a European tour. Are you actually emigrating?
Scream Club: Yes, we want to. Were actually looking for squats right now. Were through paying rent, were through with America. Were looking for a new home.
OA: So anyone who wants to girls crashing on their coach can just get in contact with you... And youre in Europe till?
SC: September 1st. Six more weeks.
OA: So, I’ve heard yo’uve been very buzzi since your last v isit in Oslo?
SC: Yes, very buzzi. We started our brand new record label called "Cruncks not dead", (they repeat it together in perfect harmony) - Cruncks not dead! You see crunck is not dead, it has only been captured by sexists and homophobes and we are here to bring it back! So we are really happy, we got the first compilation out. Its called "Socially Awesome ", with 19 of the best bands in Olympia right now. And the label is in the same spirit as Kill Rock Stars, Chainsaw and K, but we represent the new sound of Olympia, and it has great stuff on it. Including a black metal band called "Wolves in the Throne room", and where here in Norway - the birth place of black metal, and they love Norway. They’re probably very excited we are here right now.
- a small music break with Scream Clubs new jam about their international travelling: Scream Club, "Internashenal" -
SC: Its a totally new remix, produced by Leonardo De Leonard. We are actually doing a whole album with him. We recorded 9 songs with him in France. No, ten actually. The song you just heard was recorded six months ago, we sent the song back and forth though internet, we met him at myspace.com, we hung out with him in Paris and did 9 more songs and were going back to Paris in August to record three more songs and a whole album will be finished.
OA: Are you going to release this album on your label?
SC: Well, were going to shop it around and see what is the best...you know, where we can get the best distribution. Our label is small and its important for our label that we also work with other labels....(whispering:) they will pay for our promotion that we cant really afford...so we really are trying to use all the resources we can with our limited budget. Were trying to do fancy looking products but its really DIY, so we relay on a lot of free promotion, like myspace - so please be our friend on myspace - on "Cruncks not dead" or "Scream Club". We always need more friends! And we have soon coming the debut album from Nicky Click. This is our first full length that we put out on Cruncks not dead and we are very excited about it. And Im sure she will be out here before you know it. Yes, so its Nicky Click and the song is called "Dont Call Me Baby". Its a good jam, and I hope you all like it.
- music break with Nicky Click: "Dont Call Me Baby" -
OA: Is she from Olympia as well?
SC: Yes she is!
OA: Can you explain this attraction for bands to Olympia? Wha’ts so magical about this place?
SC: I don’t know...its just a magical place! Maybe its the water – that’s what people say. But I don’t really know. Once you’ve v isited you just have to come back. Its seem to be an international city although it is very small. Maybe 40.000 people...no I don’t know....its not a lot of people there. Like its tiny. Its small but so many great labels. K, Kill Rock Stars and Chainsaw - well it doesn’t live there any more but spent a good many years there. I mean Olympia is cool and its small and people get really creative there and then they take there creativity around the world and then everyone has to go and check it out. Its cheap! Its a cheap place to live. And people are really supportive of other peoples art too. Its great!
OA: Do you think its connected with the Evergreen Collage as well?
SC: Probably. A little. I mean it has a good, healthy supply of students coming...and its a pretty liberal collage so, for a college its great - except that it costs an arm and a leg as all schools do - and I think its great. And I have enjoyed their facilities many times.
