OA: So what other lesbian bands did you listen to. Are you into Ani DiFranco and stuff like that?
EB: No, I’m not into the singer-songwriter crap.
OA: : But it is really important that women made noise like The Butchies do, well it was when they did cus they slip up now.
EB: Yeah, they did. I was sending emails for like every month for a year asking them to come and play in Holland, I really wanted to see their show! And to see them live! But every time I got an email back they said: "Yeah, we will, sometime, cool!" But now they split up
OA: They will probably have other bands, though.
EB: But it won't be The Butchies. And if they have a reunion show, it will probably happen somewhere in the States….
OA: So what is the difference vibe between your solo project and your band, it’s probably a different feeling being on stage and when you write songs as well?
EB: When you play in a band, not all eyes are on you. The eyes are on the band, mostly the lead singer, you know. So, sometimes you can turn around and relax a little bit…I got this asthma thing…I really have to stop smoking…so I have to catch my breath a bit on stage. But with Elle Bandita everyone is always watching you…but it’s cool…cus I like attention…
OA: But you didn’t start The Riplets, they were existing before you came in the band.
EB: Yeah, they have been excisting for five or six years now, and I joined the just this March, or it was February…and I always dreamt of being a riplet - and now I am
OA: Do you know them or do you just know the band from their music?
EB: I knew the band from their music, and then I met them on one of their 41 concerts. That's when we started to exchange tapes with girl bands, and that was cool. We hung out a lot and I did a tour with them as a roadie - so I got all the girls! Well, no, but that’s how we eventually got friends
OA: So they are from Rotterdam as well?
EB: Yeah, they are.
OA: Is there a big girl scene in Rotterdam?
EB: No, not really. It’s like three girl bands. It’s the Lulabelles, The Riplets and Lady Die!. But they are no more, they split up a year ago. Yeah, Lady Die! really died. But two of them started other bands, though.
OA: There was a couple of Ladyfests in Holland as well, wasn’t there? Is it anything left of the community from the organizing committee of the Ladyfest?
EB: Amsterdam, yeah. No.
OA: So you have not seen any parties or festival connected to this?
EB: No, not really. It all emancipated in Holland.
music break with The Riplets: It’s a track The Riplets usually opens with when they play live. From the album "Love special delivery boy" aka "LSD boy." Elle Bandita hadn’t joined the band yet, and all the songs on the album had a boys name: "Gino" is the one we played.
OA: So you are involved with the song writing now with The Riplets?
EB: Yeah, we are dirtying up the talk a bit. It’s cool
OA: Was it one person in charge of writing the songs before, or was it always a band effort?
EB: No, they were all writing the songs together. And I guess that’s why the songs are so good. Well, I think they’re good. They have a really trashy garage sound. And it’s really fun to play with them and practise too.
OA: Are they signed on a label?
EB: Yeah, I thought it was on Sonic Rendevous or My First Sonny Weissmuller…but who gives a shit. It’s there, it’s out and you can buy it
OA: Are you planning to get a label as well for your music? But you haven't recorded an album for Elle Bandita yet, have you?
EB: No, but I’m working with an EP. Six songs right now, and a label is really interested. But I’m just gonna check out the possibilities, and if it doesn’t work out I just do it my self….if I get the money. We’ll see
